Natural Light and Simple Decor: How to Create Stunning Newborn Portraits in Your Home

When it comes to creating beautiful newborn portraits in your home, many parents may feel overwhelmed at the prospect of getting their home “photo-ready”. However, the truth is that with just a few simple tips, you can turn any room in your home into a gorgeous backdrop for your little one’s first photos.

First, the most important consideration is the lighting. Soft and natural light is very flattering for newborn portraits, so choose a room in your home that has large windows and plenty of sunlight streaming in.

Next, keep the decor simple and timeless. Cozy blankets or a neutral-coloured swaddle (I have lots of these that I bring to sessions!), can add just the right touch of warmth and texture to your portraits.

Another great tip is to declutter the room(s) you’ll be using for your photos so that the atmosphere is calm and inviting. If you’re unsure what should stay or what should go, I can provide some tips when I arrive at your home!

Finally, trust your photographer! A skilled newborn photographer knows how to create beautiful portraits no matter the setting. If you would love an in-home session but are worried about the lighting in your home – don’t stress! I always bring photography lights with me to give your rooms a boost of light!

In conclusion, creating beautiful newborn portraits in your home doesn’t have to be stressful. Take a look at these highlights from this family’s Toronto newborn session below. If you look closely, all of these portraits were taken in ONE room! …yes, you read that correctly – one single room!
