First birthday traditions | Asian culture fortune telling ceremony

In many Asian cultures including Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean cultures, a baby’s first year celebration includes a fortune-telling ceremony. During this ceremony, a variety of objects are placed in front of the baby and the adults watch to see which 3 objects he/she reaches for and spends the most time with. Each object that’s presented represents some prediction about baby’s future; it could be a career, hobby, a character trait, etc.

This little lady had a fun time picking out her objects, and if the predictions are correct she will definitely have a flair for the arts (she spent most of her time with the markers and paint brush!) And yes, that is a stethoscope that she’s biting in one of the images!
