COVID-19 | Studio Update | From now until Easter | Effects on small businesses

Easter set in the studio | Jessica Nip Photography | Toronto www.jessicanip.com

Well, it’s been quite the week. Just one week ago we were planning activities for my son’s 1-week school break. As of yesterday, that break has been extended to 3 weeks, basically until EASTER! There have been so many activities/sports/events that have been cancelled or postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic, so I thought I’d update everyone on the studio as well as how I’m doing personally (since I’ve been pretty quiet here and on social media lately.)

PERSONAL:

I had my last session before the break this morning – a lovely Easter-themed session with my favourite set of twins. Cute set, right?! I love it and wish I could photograph more people on it before Easter. But because things are so uncertain right now, I thought I’d take a few selfies.

So here I am, smiling and feeling healthy and optimistic.

I’m optimistic because our communities are taking measures to “flatten the curve”, and perhaps when Easter arrives we will all be reflecting on how our collective and individual boredom/expenses/struggles were not for nothing.

But I have to admit I am growing a bit anxious. Both my husband and I own small businesses, and the next few months are full of uncertainty. I have sessions booked for March and April that are now up-in-the-air. Most are open to rescheduling but if they don’t, that is a month of income gone.

I’m worried about my older family members, and though I’m 41-years young I admit I’m also worried about how my body will react should I contract the virus. For most of my life I’ve experienced viral-induced asthma. That is, cold and flu viruses almost always cause asthma symptoms to develop. I don’t know what getting COVID-19 will mean for me.

BUT.

I have to remind myself that there is nothing I can do about it other than take it day by day. To breathe and enjoy this upcoming time with my son at home. Maybe my husband will work from home, though that will be more difficult for him. We’ll work on making YouTube videos, we’ll go on outdoor walks, I’ll work on a personal photography project that I’ve been putting off, and things will unfold however they were meant to unfold. Oh, and we’ll be washing our hands A LOT.

THE STUDIO:

And the studio? While I will continue serving my clients who have ordered albums and printed products (and I am still taking orders for those!), I will not be seeing any families for sessions until the government has advised it is allowing non-essential businesses to re-open.

How about you? I’d love to hear from you – are you okay?

Be well,

Jessica
