Toddlers and independence | Photographing children at home | Jessica Nip Photography | Toronto family photographer

I have met a lot of toddlers in my life. They almost ALWAYS have a moment (or two) or asserting their independence, a.k.a. saying “NO” during a photo session with me.

So my approach, basically, is to try to become their friend and let them feel like they’re in charge. Because let’s face it, most of the time, toddlers ARE in charge. They say what they want, when they want, and get people around them to do what they want!

All of this is to say that I love photographing toddlers at home where they can show me all of their toys and books, and where they can just be themselves. This particular toddler, below, loved having something to hold and touch – chocolates, toys, earrings, diaper cream – everything was interesting to him and I love that many of the images captured his curious and tactile nature!

Oh, and if his family looks familiar, you may remember him from his gorgeous newborn session linked here !
