Those digital files | How I have failed | Jessica Nip Photography in Toronto | Displaying your family’s pictures

The digital files, it’s what’s popular these days. Everyone wants them and as a photographer, they are among my best-selling products. But if I’m to be honest, I think that I haven’t truly SERVED my clients when the digital files are all that they take home with them at the end of the day.

As someone scrolling through the internet, looking for a photographer, you’re probably searching for one that offers these digital files at a good price point (or perhaps “price” is not the most important factor in your search for a photographer, and instead you are searching for someone that balances pricing with value and experience…which I applaud you for and will be a topic for another blog post!) At some point maybe you will find someone, you’ll have a great session, and a few weeks later you’ll have those files on a USB or downloaded onto your computer. At that point, what happens next for those images? Let me guess, it’s one or all of the following:

A) You’ll wait for a sale at (insert box box online print company) and make a photo book and/or some prints

B) You’ll bring your USB to (insert big box store) and print out all the images

C) You’ll decide what to do with them (insert number of weeks/months from now) because you’re too busy with work/kids

D) It’s been (insert number of years) since your session and you still haven’t done anything with them, but you plan to…soon

E) You’re finally ready to do something with them and your new computer has no USB, or your USB is now corrupt and your computer won’t read it

F) None of the above, because you always print your images at recommended labs or you’ve trusted me to do all your printing for you

I have a LOT of clients who are solid Fs (that totally does not sound right, haha!). But I also have a LOT of clients who fall into the A-E categories. For those clients, I feel that I have failed them. I’m in the business of making beautiful images for families to look at and enjoy for years. The key words here are “beautiful” and “years”. Not only do I want you to have beautiful images captured digitally during your session, but I want you to have those images printed on absolutely beautiful products. Printing through an online photo company and/or big box store can be convenient, and I have no problems doing that myself sometimes. However, for true heirlooms and for those special pieces that you know you want to last, you need high quality products that display the true colours from your files.

My mission in 2019 is to bring more printed art into the hands and homes of my families: ones that will last a lifetime, ones that they can pass onto their children, and ones they will be proud of showing off and displaying in their homes.

When you’ve invested your money and time into a custom portrait experience, you should have products that reflect that.

If you’re one of my amazing clients and would like to chat about printing and displaying your images, give me a call. I’d absolutely love to help.
