We had a session scheduled for 6 months but when the time came, this little girl wasn’t yet sitting. So we played it by ear and by 8 months, she was sitting confidently and we went ahead and got these amazing portraits of her below! After the newborn stage, the “6 month” age is what many parents feel is a great time to have portraits taken of their baby. While I welcome babies of any age here, if parents are want to capture their baby’s milestones, I would recommend thinking of it as “stages” rather than “ages. At 6 months, many babies are not yet able to sit confidently without needing some support or assistance. Instead, for a sitting session, it’s often better to wait until somewhere in the 7-9 month range where baby has mastered the skill and is able to sit and smile, turn her head and interact with everyone. If parents are eager to get a session in before this stage, the “tummy time” stage is very fun as well! At about 4-5 months, babies have mastered lifting their heads off the ground and are able to hold it while making funny faces and smiling at the camera.
So just remember: stages, not ages!
